What is Bikram Yoga?

Bikram Yoga is a series of 26 classical Hatha Yoga postures and 2 breathing postures, which are practiced in a 40° degree Celsius warm room with 40% humidity. It trains and strengthens your body, mind and soul in an incomparable way. Based on a scientifically proven path of health, Bikram Yoga is known for its many medical benefits and its extraordinary ability to train, focus and calm your mind at the same time.

What are the benefits of Bikram Yoga?

The Bikram Yoga series has a high therapeutic effect for all people, whether beginner or advanced. In fact, people who have been injured, are out of shape, or have serious medical problems are often the first to feel the incredible effects of Bikram Yoga! The 26 postures work synergistically and constructively to ensure the total workout of every system in the body and promote optimal health and well-being.

The postures are arranged in a fixed sequence, so that each position warms up the muscles and joints that will be trained in the next position to allow the body to stretch safely and more deeply. Bikram Yoga also stretches, squeezes and massages internal organs, flushes the cardiovascular system, stimulates the metabolism, activates our lymph glands and stimulates our hormonal and nervous systems.

The additional heat and humidity promote the purification and detoxification of the body, which helps the body to regulate itself better and to strengthen the immune system.

Until the end of the 90 minute Yoga lesson, each person trains every muscle, bone, joint, gland and internal organ. During this time, the fresh, oxygenated blood is pumped to every cell of the body. The restoration of health in all areas is the result. Bikram Yoga also has a mood-lifting effect and you become mentally and emotionally more stable.

How often should one practice Bikram Yoga?

To get the most out of the benefits of Bikram Yoga, as well as progress and get quicker results, we recommend practicing Bikram Yoga at least 2 to 3 times a week. In short:

Bikram Yoga is not like Yoga

In order to teach Bikram Yoga or open a studio, there are a few guidelines that must be considered and followed. The lesson always lasts 90 minutes and may only be taught by trained Bikram Yoga teachers who have been trained by Bikram Choudhury himself. The founder of Bikram Yoga, the Indian Bikram Choudhury, brought this special Hatha Yoga method, which cleanses the whole body, worldwide fame from India to California and even had the style patented. Bikram Yoga also differs from other Yoga styles in other ways. Where otherwise one's own experience stands in the foreground, the mirror in Bikram has an important function: The Bikram Yoga students are placed in such a way that each student can see himself in the mirror and thus observe his own progress. An important part of Bikram Yoga is the heat of the room, which is heated to 40 degrees Celsius. The heat supports the effect of the postures and challenges the body. Therefore, you should not eat too much before the intensive training and drink plenty of still water before and after the lesson. This is extremely important. During the first lessons, the primary goal is therefore to become comfortable with the heat and not to leave the training room early. After about 10 lessons, most participants will be able to follow all the postures.

Hot - Hotter - Bikram Yoga

The heat of Bikram Yoga has the purpose of warming up the muscles, ligaments and tendons. This makes them much more flexible than in a cold environment. In fact, this also reduces the risk of injury and makes you proud to have done this great cardio workout. Bikram Hot Yoga is not only easy on the joints but also at least as effective as intensive jogging and gives an incredibly good feeling. Those who keep up until the end of the class are rewarded with a special body feeling. You feel fit and free. All organs were massaged, the skin is radiant, the body was refreshed with 100 percent oxygen and suddenly, anything is possible ...

Can you lose weight with Bikram Yoga?

Even though the primary goal of Bikram Yoga is to feel good in your body and strengthen your general well-being, you are clearly burning a lot of calories. Namely, up to 1000 calories per lesson, which is a lot of calories to burn. So, in the 90 minutes of Bikram Yoga, body fat is reduced and muscle mass is built up. The sweaty Hot Yoga is not only popular with Hollywood Stars because it is a real calorie killer, but also because you can define your figure with the training.

Is Bikram Yoga suitable for everyone?

For Bikram Yoga you should have a certain basic fitness or at least have good health, otherwise you may experience cardiovascular problems. Heavily overweight people may want to switch to a less demanding style of Yoga at the beginning to build up their muscles. This can be done ideally with Hatha Yoga. Your Bikram Yoga Zug team will be happy to advise you on this.
